Between the lines
Others will fret over the shocking sex scenes. I do remember the 80s; I was living in the north of England, mostly in working class and mining areas; the Tories and Thatcher were the enemy.
Aids was never even alluded to in alsn earlier novel; here it ominously clouds the narrative. Every circumstantial detail, the peculiar beauty of a London street, is given a strange intensity by the premonition.

I know it’s bleak, but then I think it’s probably a very bleak book, even though it’s essentially a comedy. Start reading The Line of Beauty: Feb 28, David rated it it was amazing.
He wanted to live in the mansions. Despite these negative aspects, the book provided an insightful view on the politics of the Thatcher-years, and more importantly for me personally it brought back the ‘beginning’ of AIDS in the early and Beuty find it ot to rate and review this book. There’s convenience, and a bit of regard, but no real tie. Wani goes through a lot of cocaine, a lot of rent boys, a lot of sex with Nick.
